Every house smells differently. Usually we don’t feel this smell and we’ll recognize it only by returning from long trips, but there is a way to make the fragrance at home more expressive and change it to your taste. Learning from popular bloggers how to do it.

See three master classes on creating scented candles and sprays, as well as diffusers for essential oils.

Scented Candle

Candle - the choice of those who like to enjoy long, cozy evenings. In addition to the pleasant smell, it gives a flickering light and warmth and can easily turn an ordinary evening into a romantic evening. The only minus is that natural essential oils can smoke a little, so you don’t need to do many candles right away: it’s enough to light one for a short time.

How to make a candle from soy wax (it is white and it is not so difficult to clean containers and surfaces from it), teaches Erin Francois, the author of the blog François et Moi.

You will need:

  • glass cup;
  • soy wax in flakes (twice the volume than the future candle);
  • wick and holder;
  • natural essential oils (here - "Rest in the forest", "Needles" and "Sweet Orange");
  • stewpan and dipper - for a water bath;
  • wooden skewer;
  • scissors.

Step 1. Fill a saucepan 5 cm with water and put on a small fire. Pour the flakes of wax into the dipper (you can take a glass bowl instead), put it in water. Stirring occasionally, wait until the wax is completely melted. Immediately after this, remove the dipper with it from the water.

Step 2. Meanwhile, fasten the wick in a metal holder, and then dip the holder in the melted wax and quickly press it to the bottom of the cup, pressing it with a wooden skewer. When the metal part is glued to the bottom, fix the wick vertically, wrapping its free end around the skewer and putting it across the neck of the glass.

Step 3. When the wax removed from the heat has cooled slightly, you can add essential oils to it. If they are poured into a very hot wax, they can flare up or simply burn out and change the smell. On the candle you will need 100 drops of oil (other sources advise to limit to ten).

Step 4. Gently place the candle in a quiet place and give wax a day to frost.

Step 5. Cut the wick to 5 mm. Done!

Laundry spray

Spray-scented smells are good if you need to apply them locally, rather than flavoring the whole house. Usually they spray laundry before bedtime or during ironing.

It is very easy to make a spray - we learn this from Athena Calderone from the EyeSwoon blog.

You will need:

  • spray bottle;
  • water;
  • vodka or alcohol;
  • aromatic oil (here - lavender).

Step 1. Mix in a bottle or jar all the ingredients: two glasses of water, 2 tablespoons of vodka or alcohol and 15-20 drops of essential oil.

Step 2. Shake the mixture well and pour into a spray bottle.

Step 3. Decorate the spray by putting inside a sprig of dry lavender.

Oil diffuser

If you want to change the smell of the house for a long time, a diffuser will do. It will constantly aromatize the air, and, unlike candles, it can be safely used in the presence of children and animals.

Assembly instructions for the diffuser - from our favorite bloggers A beautiful mess.

You will need:

  • essential oil;
  • sweet almond oil;
  • rods for the diffuser;
  • glass or ceramic container with a narrow neck.

Step 1. Wash the selected container with soapy water and dry.

Step 2. Pour the mixture of oils: 30% ethereal (15-30 ml) and 70% almond. Shake to mix. If the container neck is too narrow, mix the oils in the measuring cup with the spout beforehand and pour it using a funnel.

Step 3. Put 8-12 sticks in the container and wait for a while until they become saturated with oils and begin to distribute the smell.
